How to unpair two 360 boxes?

chrisjames
Up to speed

When I renegotiated my contract some time ago, I was sent an extra TV 360 box which I didn't want as I only had one TV in the house. The engineer suggested he linked the second box to my first because then I could record 12 programmes instead of 6 (hardly ever record more than 2 at the same time!) In practice this worked and all recorded shows could be watched on either box which were sited next to each other. Then, I started to get problems with shows packing up mid way through watching with an error code. I decided to concentrate on one box and switched the other off but then this affected the remaining box. It would not record programmes or delete them until or unless I switched the second box on, albeit briefly. This is irritating so how can I unlink the boxes?

Where these live programs, recorded programs, or catch up/on demand/apps?

What were the error codes and messages, for example CS1002, CS2400, CS1150?

It's possible that the box with error messages has a hard drive problem which would mean that neither box could play that recording.

Is the box you are currently using the one that had the error codes, or is it the one that was operating correctly?

It sounds like you may be trying to set/delete recordings on your currently active box that are also set to record on the unactive (switched off box)

You can't set the same programs or series to record on both boxes, however you can fine tune series links to record on one box, irrespective of it being your default recording box.

You can fine tune the recordings between boxes by clicking on the red Record button, then on the next screen click Advanced Options, then on the next screen click on Choose TV Box, then select the box you want the recording to be made on, then click on Record. That program will then be recorded on that box going forward, even if the default recording box is one of the others.

When setting up a new series link go to Advanced and select which box you want the recording to be made on. It will then be recorded on that box going forward. If though you've already got a series link set up for a particular program and want to change it so it will record on the other box then you need to cancel that series link, and then set it up to record again, using the advanced options when you press record.

You cannot unlink the boxes. They are both on the same account. Also V360 is a server based system & the server sees them as a pool of recordings & two recording locations. Switching one of the boxes off is therefore always going to cause problems as it will be detected as a communication error.

You must not switch off a box as if it cannot "phone home" to prove that it's still in use it will get deactivated after a while.

If the box is faulty just call Virgin and have it replaced basically your new contract includes 2 boxes and you are paying for it, if you have 2 boxes with hard drives then the faulty box will probably  be replaced with a mini box with no hard drive, picture below of the boxes.

Hey Chrisjames, thank you for reaching out and I am so sorry to hear you are having some TV issues.

We cannot unlink boxes, you could remove one if you wanted to?

How has it been over the weekend?
