Removal of virgin media cable and box

Hi Kath,

Zach has replied with the below - is this the message you refer to? I have not been provided with next steps and the cabling is a hazard to myself and my property, including the cause of damp to the inside of my home.

There are multiple homes connected to this cable removing these myself will not create a health and safety risk but also affect the connection to your other customers. 

Kindly advise the next steps and when somebody can come out to remove these. I have builders arriving to fix the damp in the next few days.

I have received an update from the area manager who has confirmed that we would be unable to provide an engineer to come out to the property to perform this work of removing the cabling.

They have confirmed, however, if you're the owner of the property that you're welcome to remove the cabling yourself if you wish.

Thanks for your input @jem101. As this is a health and safety hazard to both the internal and external area of my home, I’ll let Virgin Media handle this one!

Fab idea @spell. They don’t seem to understand that they don’t have permission to store their cables on my property - any past permissions have been revoked by me! 

If they don’t remove the cables before my workmen begin fixing the damp, I‘ll take this option up, perhaps even pursue this legally.

Perhaps you would benefit from a call to the Citizens Advice Bureau or email if they have the system in your area to avoid legal costs. If it does come to legal action it is a relatively straightforward matter at modest cost.which would be claimed from VM. I doubt they would brief an advocat to appear especially with no defence to put forward ankd you would win by default. Nor would they relish a 'stated case' - the implications could be enormous especially with a bit of publicity.                                       Good luck

I have the same issue and I called customer service line and no help because I don’t have an account and told to raise a complaint but to raise a complaint I need to have an account. It’s pretty annoying and can’t reach to the right department as there is no specific department for removal. I have been told the previous owner should call and remove which is impossible to get hold of the previous owner. How can I remove this green cable that is a hazard and stopping me from getting my driveway done!

Hi mate just so you are aware this thread is pointless other than seeing they do zero to help. Mine got passed to area rep of some sort then they say they’ll contact you. I’ve waited 4 weeks and zilch. They had 2 weeks while neighbour was on holiday to reroute it and did nothing. There’s going to be a cable dangling very soon outside my boundary walls once my bricky shows up.

Oh god, what a nightmare!  I guess I’ll have to sort out myself then.

Indeed, a pair of wire cutters and convenient local skip will work wonders!

It does sound as if you have tried to be reasonable, have requested it be done ‘properly’ - although all that would happen is that someone would turn up with a pair of wire cutters…. but you’ve been given the usual VM fob off.

Cut the whole lot away and dump it. Absolutely nothing will happen.
