It's too late for more IPv6 advocacy now, Virgin had the chance to lead the way but they blew it. Blessed with a community of IPv6 enthusiasts for well over half a decade, the Virgin prime directive of "Thou Shalt Not Talk To Customers" steamrollered all our requests, advice and suggestions flat to the ground, instead of treating it as a resource that you couldn't buy for love or money.
And so now they are coming in last of the UK's Big Three residential ISPs, no longer able to score a marketing coup and just hoping that nobody writes a bad PR piece about the company with the motto of "Don't Keep Up". Although their IPv6 deployment still remains to be done, they've lost that war already. Now they have no option but to follow where their competitors have led.
The next war is about servers and services being enabled on IPv6. It's worth pointing out that Sky and BT have not yet got their act together in that area, so Virgin still has a chance to shine. Will they? I'd like to be optimistic, but I'm not sure on what precedent such optimism would be based.
