Cable my street

rgjstone
Tuning in

Hi I'm just wondering if I could get some information if it's likely my street will be cabled in the near future? I noticed there's some cables being installed a street over and further back from there.

I've attached an image to show where they're being installed, we live between Wardle St and Sandal St and are all currently connected to an old bt cabinet and community funding an upgrade would cost us £5k through openreach even though there are fibre enabled cabinets within 20 metres and we live walking distance to the centre of manchester.

I can appreciate the frustration MiloK

To clarify what was advised previously when you raised this?

If it was advised that we can't service the area then it is unlikely the team will be doing this in the near future.

Once it does become avaialble then from the registration our team will notify of this.

Regards,

Kain

How many different ways is there to explain this?

1. You do service this area

2. The infrastructure has been in place for ages.

3. I can see the infrastructure from my property.

4. Every single property in my small area, my neighbors, can get your services.

5. The small little side street that has just two buildings on it, that comes off of a road that gets your services, was missed when they pulled all the cables.

6.  All that is needed is for a cable to be pulled to my property

If google street view is up to date I can pretty well guarantee you have no chance of getting a service. The cable build in that area is around 30 years old, so may pre-date the properties. As such there would be no capacity allowed in the build for additional connections. This franchise build is a rare type that uses underground line extenders to reduce the amount of cabinets required. So you are likely beyond the maximum distance from the cabinets in both directions. HFC systems also have a finite capacity. If that capacity is reached, no further cabinets can be added without degrading the service. If that is not bad enough, the budget to add a property to the network is only around £1000. Enough to dig about 7 metres of tarmac. If there was capacity & you had a road with 30 to 40 potential customers you might stand a chance. If you were in a VM full fibre area VM could use the BT ducts to service your property. But at present you are not. VM have intentions to fibre overbuild everywhere by 2028, so keep your fingers crossed for the future.

Hey Milok, thank you for reaching out and I understand where you are coming  from.

However sometimes because this on your street does not mean it is for your street this could be the next block of houses for example.

I will send you a PM so I can take some details from you to get this raised to the specialist team for a call back.

Please look out for the purple envelope. Thanks

Hi,

I am wondering when/if Virgin will run fibre to the left hand side of Mill Lane (SR6). You have recently wired the box that appears to service the small group of houses (SR6 7EZ) yet is still showing as not planned for SR6 7ET (Google maps code XJ3P+Q2 Sunderland) we have been registered on Cable my street for close to 6 years. It's coming up on our contract end for Vodafone and would be nice to be able to get broadband that will get past 45Mb/s.
