Virgin Media Latency

Hi, we’ve been on VM for as long as I can remember but recently I’ve started to notice a lot of lag when it comes to latency. I set up a BQM which has been running for about a month now. I regularly get lag spikes when gaming and as of recent it’s made playing anything near enough impossible. I only play with my PC and PS5 wired, the hub is in modem mode connected to TP-Link Omar’s equipment however router mode makes no difference either.

is there anything we can do to help bring the latency down?

latency problems is VM nemesis they can only hope to solve by more upstream splitting

Probably due to being in a high subscription area.

What speed are you on?

You have a very busy family or neighbours or both. Unless VM have plans for a local upgrade you are stuck with this.

My name is NOT Alessandro. That's just a tag Virginmedia sticks on some contributors. Please ignore it.

We’re currently on the 350/35 package, no plans on upgrading currently though as we’re trying to get FTTP installed

See a lot of the time the house has no one in it, other than just myself and it’s still that bad. I know one of my neighbours has FTTP but not sure on the other. Must just be a non ideal area

Yeah that’s always been my complaint with VM is latency, it simply can’t compete with FTTP

If you've a Hub 3 a 4 or 5 may help.

We have a Hub 3 currently, unless we upgrade I don't believe we can get a 4 or 5 though.

Hi @Lewisbull01

Thanks for posting and welcome to the community.

Sorry to hear of any latency issues. We've not been able to locate you via the Forum details provided so I will send you a PM and then be able to run tests.

Can you pop the router in router mode for me, it's purely for our tests to be able to be done 🙂

Best wishes.
