Setting up the email on a new device is likely to trigger the requirement to use a generated app password. See this help page: VM have recently changed the log in requirements for accessing VM Mail via third party apps.

Thanks for that, Graham, but that gives me another problem - I have a xxx@ntlworld.com account, and I can't generate a new password unless I use a non-Virgin Media mail account...

VM are no longer giving users mailboxes for quite some time now, and require users to get another 3rd party email. You could setup a Gmail account for example. This will not affect your NTL mailbox, it's just VM's new "security" policies that require the new email. Personally I see it as the end of VM providing an email service full stop in the longer term.

Yes that is one of VM's recent security changes. You will need to get a third party email address to use as the username for your Ntlworld account. Gmail or MS outlook emails are easy to create but there are other free email providers available.

I can accept that, but then how do I then get at my stored emails?
