Is that on the VM webmail service on the VM website or when you are using an email app?

When you send VM emails from an email app. VM do block emails being sent from a suspicious IP address.

So my first thought is that the IP address provided by the mobile service in the Canaries is already on a block list as a sender of spam. That can happen.

If you have been using an email app I would try sending an email from the VM webmail service on their website https://mail2.virginmedia.com/ .

As far as I am aware VM only block emails from being sent from their webmail service if the contents of the email fail VM's outgoing spam filters. In which case you get an error message saying "Spam content found" or something similar.

If you can send from the website at least you have a workaround to send emails until you can get a new IP address from the mobile service of your next port of call. When you get another "welcome" message from a mobile provider try sending from your mail app.

Hey Chris_Myers, thank you for reaching out and I am sorry to hear you are struggling to send mail over seas;

Did any of the advice above help at all?

Also it could be because the network may not be secure.

Keep us updated?

New around here?

With all email apps. Logging onto my email account through VM website still works, but the main question is why is it telling me my password for outbound mail server is incorrect when clearly it isn’t? Once we left the Canary Islands and returned to Portugal, this issue corrected itself. The issue seems specific to Canary Islands and more specifically switching from satellite to shore-side connection.

The vm webmail service at the address shown in the response was what I defaulted to and seemed to be the only access to email on ntlworld.com

All that confirms that it was the IP address allocated to you by the mobile provider in the Canary Islands that was being blocked. Your observation about "switching from satellite to shore-side connection" may well be correct.

While you were in the Canary Islands you could still use the VM webmail because when you send emails using the webmail the email is being sent from the IP address of VM's own email server, not the IP address of the mobile network you are using.

Regarding the error message from your email app. Email apps often do not report the actual error message received from the email server. When email apps cannot authenticate with the mail server they do tend to default to asking you to check that username and password.

Just a note about what I do, only applicable to people in modem mode and with routers that allow it.

I travel abroad a lot, for about 4 months in total each year. On my router I have a VPN Server and my machines when abroad run a VPN client to this server. This enable everything I run to think it is in the UK. Works really well, even this app thinks I’m in the UK.
