I have had 5  similar VM emails regarding subscriptions expired etc. recently but they are phishing emails, best always to log in to your genuine VM account to check bills are up to date.

Also perhaps look at changing the VM contact email address if the exisiting email is getting attention from scammers.

The scam fake emails are not usually from an official Virgin email sender address but have have the sender name as virgin, so check the the sender email address. Most of these in my case are coming from  some German IP address, and are not being recognised as spam so could fool people. I have posted recently myself about this, and the advice is to report these emails to virgin.

Examples of scam VM emails are routinely posted at the top of the security forum in 'Phishing News'

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Security-matters/bd-p/Internet_Security

There is, however, what seems to be a genuine email being mentioned on here regarding closing down old email accounts which are no longer linked to an active VM broadband subscription

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Security-matters/Email-claiming-Virgin-Media-will-close-my-acco...

but have not seen any official VM comment on this as yet. It may possibly be a limited trial for some ex-customers who are still using VM email as there has not been a huge outcry about it on here (as yet!).

The examples listed by VM are few, and one looks genuine regarding closing email account.

It is not always easy to know if it is a scam or not without inspecting the source/header.

Most contain links to click on.

My examples of these are as follows-

Subscription Expired “ Renew Today or Face Total Loss!

We have attempted to contact you multiple times

Your account is being closed. Check this

Billing error

Your account is set to close - Saturday, 23 March

VIRGIN MONEY PLC. [Verify your information now]

Note- these come from different countries such as Japan, Canada etc but the senders use a proxy server.

I just ignore these  obvious fake emails.

You post on here very regularly about email spam. I am surprised that you have not closed down any/all of your old VM email accounts that you can do and keep any you are forced to leave behind as redundant accounts not linked to anything (other than VM).

Thanks for your comments, I always need advice.

You post on here very regularly about email spam-

Yes, you have noticed that, I commenced posting  it 2019 and find the subject interesting. Also I monitor for cyber crime on my ntlworld.com primary email that  VM prevent me closing since 2019.

My ntlworld.com email  is a target as it is pwned many times over the years. I have had hacking attempts  on most of my emails from 2003 years but it stopped when 2FA started around 2016, but the hackers get your data and will persist if they know your email address.

I have recently open some new email addresses in  outlook, gmail and yahoo so I have options to switch to clean emails now, and also use alias emails as a protection.

I am surprised that you have not closed down any/all of your old VM email accounts-

I have closed my secondary VM accounts as you advise, and just have the primary VM email still there unfortunately, but I use a third party email to log in now.

I get some spam also  on my other emails such as outlook, gmail etc and also have had other people use my emails for purchasing good and services, and had to act to prevent that.

My post was in answer  to the  the original post, as I have had similar fake virgin emails.and hoped to assist.

Similar examples are routinely posted as 'Phishing news' in the security forum such as example 1 below

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Security-matters/Latest-Phishing-News-16-10-2024/td-p/5578051

The topics are updated regularly with current examples.

If you are in any doubt about an email, claiming to be from VM, try looking there first. Sometimes though an email that looks like it might possibly be fake, turns out to be real!

If in doubt, you can always start a topic in the security forum to check.

I have to say that there are genuine emails out there about closing down your accounts within the next 15 days etc. Reply from Phishing at Virgin:

I can confirm the email you have received is a legitimate email issued by Virgin Media.
