Virgin media account - email authentication failed

Hi, hopefully someone can help.

I've had a virgin.net email for 20+ years and it's just suddenly stopped working.
Last year I got the email that VM were going to delete my email. However, as I have VM Broadband they were able to keep it & migrate it across to an active account.
I was told nothing would happen to my email address and keep login in the same way using my virgin.net email address.
On Monday it was working fine, since Tuesday 18 I have had an Authentation Failure with the error message of mail server imap4.virgin.net is not responding. 

I was able to login into the VM webmail using virgin.net on Monday, now I can't.
I was able to login into my VM account app using my virgin.net email, now I can't.

I've called VM customer services that say that Virgin do not manage any email domains now and so they cannot help reset the password or locate my email account and that I should speak to Talk Talk (even though I am not a Talk Talk account holder)
I called Talk Talk customer services they say they do not manage any virgin or ntl email addresses/domains...
Anyone had the same issue this week where emails have suddenly stopped. 

Would be really helpful to find out if there is a quick fix or we all need to get a new email address as the virgin domain now does not exist...?

    EmmaEllwood  The Talk Talk reference is nonsense from the telephone support people.  Virgin.net emails are managed by virginmedia.   A member of the VM Forum Team should respond here shortly and will be able to help you with this.

    I'm sorry to hear you're having some issues with the email.

    Do you get the same error message on multiple devices when trying to log in?

    Do you have a change password option?

    If so, please change the password and this should unlock the account.

      Hi Vikki, thanks for replying so quickly… it’s across multiple devices & can’t access webmail anymore. (Or my VM account with the email address)

      I also tried to add the email to another device & it said server not responding. Authentication failed.

      I have the option of changing the password but it doesn’t recognise my date of birth or security question… so am a bit lost really. 

      Can you confirm that this email is still linked to my virgin media account & that it’s just locked?

      When I called customer services they said no email was connected to my VM account & I needed to set up a new one…

      Hi Vikki,

      I've set up a new third part email address to try and link that to my VM account, but it keeps getting stuck & then VM saying wrong email/wrong password.
      My virgin.net email is still active but I'm not receiving anything so assuming it's about changing the password when can finally access my VM account? Is there any way you can help looking into this? 🤞🏻🙏🏻

    Can you log into your MVM account? It will show you if the email is linked. 

    But you should really should think about moving to a non VM email account, because VM is definitely running them down and no one knows when they might finally stop.

      Thanks Alessandro, yes seems I do need to do that migration. So much of my life admin is attached to that email I will just need to start again. 🫠

      Can’t even get onto the MVM account through my account name / email or try to change my password, and then says my VM account doesn’t exist… So seems something has just been stopped. 🤷🏻

  • This is still not resolved.
    Can you confirm that when setting up a thirdparty email to access MVM, it now cannot be a gmail email?
    Can anyone advise on a thirdparty email domain that will actually work with resetting password / linking to an account?
    I set up a new gmail email address thinking this would help solve - but then when trying to register that the page freezes, and when trying to get a new password, the email never comes to reset it...
