Suddenly not receiving emails from Sainsbury’s

Morning

Since 25th Dec I’ve not received any emails from address service@sainsburys.co.uk, ie my on line shopping, no confirmations of orders at all, after years of shopping there ? I’ve queried with Sainsbury’s but just got the generic condescending answer, have you looked in your junk made sure we’re on your safe mail list !!! Has something changed at virgin mail ?? I’m still using my ntlworld.com address. Any help appreciated please.

Are you still a VM customer?  Are you getting any other emails from elsewhere?

It's interesting that TalKTalk email users reported the same issue with Sainsburys last year. See here as an example https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Email/Missing-Sainsburys-shopping-emails

The problem is that organisations usually use third party email software to handle their transactional  emails such as order confirmations. Putting it in simple terms. in some cases the authentication settings in that software are not set correctly resulting in the emails failing the security checks that email services such as VM run on all incoming email.

As an aside, notification emails from this forum are marked a spam by VM for similar reasons. 🙄

Sadly the people best placed to resolve that are the technical support staff of the email senders, in this case Sainsburys.

However, as you have found, the first line support staff don't see any obvious problem at their end so they always assume the problem is at the customer's end.

Personally, I would suggest that you set up an email account with one of the dedicated email providers such as Gmail, Outlook.com etc . That would be a wise move in any case because, as you are probably aware, VM stopped issuing new email accounts back in mid 2022. They are also actively closing VM email accounts that are not linked to a live broadband account. (I hope yours is!)  So moving to a non VM email email service would seem a good move in the long term,

  • Hi clgreengrass thanks for your post here although we're sorry to hear of the concerns you've raised here.

We haven't heard of this issue from other customers so the issue doesn't appear to be widespread, but we would advise to keep in touch with Sainsburys regarding this as if it is just Sainsburys' emails, then the issue would lie with them rather than your email address itself.

Apologies as I appreciate this isn't the most helpful response but we do hope this is resolved soon for you.
