Email Account

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone can advise, i have had my email account with virgin for 3.5 years, the other day i couldn't access it so contacted them, was told they had removed my account from their system as they no longer give out email addresses, but after reading a couple of blogs, it states that virgin will honor existing accounts which are linked to a broadband account, which i have had over 3 years, i have lost loads of personal information on my virgin account, and i was never told that they were going to close it, has anyone else had this issue as i think it is totally out of order and Virgin have broken the rules which they set.

VM looks to be moving away from providing any email services at all.  They have not given any users email address for the past 2 years(?) and are also insisting current users now use a 3rd party email as a security improvement.

I would strongly suggest any user who have VM mailboxes move to a non ISP tied mail service, e.g. Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo etc.   It may be a right royal pain, but will be worth it in the end.  I did this some time ago, and never looked back.  I have left VM and had no worries about the 90 days closure of the old mailbox as it was defunct long before I left.

If you do still have a current VM broadband account then the VM Forum Team can investigate what has happened.

" they (VM) had removed my account from their system as they no longer give out email"

Sadly VM support staff often seem to say anything simply to fob you off and get you off the line. What they have told you is half right. Here are the facts:

    1. VM stopped issuing email accounts 2 1/2  years ago
    2. They are deleting email accounts but only those that are no longer linked to a live VM broadband account.

You can check if yours is linked to your broadband account by sigining into your primary My Virgin Media Account The one where you can view your VM payment details) from here  https://www.virginmedia.com/my-virgin-media

Then go to "Account settings"  then "My Virgin Media account details" . On that page click on "Manage other My Virgin Media accounts" and check if the email account is listed there. If it is, then the email account is linked to your account.

"the other day i couldn't access it "

The other important point is that just because you cannot access it does not mean it's been closed. 😉

Over the last few months VM have made significant changes to the security and authentication of their email accounts and you may have fallen foul of those.

What error message are you getting form the VM website when you try to sign into the webmail account?  For example "Forbidden" or " account has been locked" or something else?

  • Hi Daveybaby1-A

    Welcome to the community forums

Sorry to hear you're having some access issues with your email.

Did you receive information regarding that the older emails were to be removed and that you had 30 days to transfer any important documentation?

Alternatively, if you has a Virgin Media service and then moved away from us, but have been able to use your email all this time, then this should've been deleted if the account it was linked to was no longer active. If you've then since re-joined us this email would need to be manually transferred to the new service account to remain available, if both the new and old accounts match the account holder information.

Let us know which one was the case for you and we can advise further if there's any further support we can provide.
