Accessing VM email sub accounts

My wife has a virgin email sub account set up several years ago for her by me as the named account holder for our overall VM broadband/TV/landline/email account.  Recently she has become unable to access her emails and is repeatedly asked to enter it in her email client, but to no avail. It all worked fine up until a few days ago with sending and receiving emails. When she tried to log into her own account at http://www.virginmedia.com/myvmo2she was prompted to set up a new VM/O2 ID. But this has to be linked to an existing VM account. She entered my account name and details and an email was sent to me saying "A request was made to transfer managing your Virgin Media account online from this email address to the email address below:"

The implication is that if I say yes then control of the whole VM account will transfer to her which I dont want to happen so I've declined. One of my concerns is that this will now disable my own email account as well as my access to managing the account and downloading bills etc.

I know that it is no longer possible to view linked email accounts on my own VM dashboard on the website let alone manage access but can someone explain:
Why the email may have stopped working very recently
How my wife can manage her email account and reset the password if this is necessary
And how to do this without transferring the whole account to her name
And finally even if she does set up a new account, would this allow her to access and use her existing virginmedia email address.

Many thanks in advance.

postmodboy  There should be no need to enter any account details if your wife uses her VM log in.  When presented with the the VMO2 ID screen she should enter her My VM log in username and current password.  The username will either be a third party email address that she set up under the previous regime or the actual email address of her VM mail.  In June VM advised certain secondary account holders that their username would be change back to the actual email address rather than a third party one.  Did your wife receive such a notification?  If the system recognises her account it will automatically link the VMO2ID to it.

If this doesn't work it may indicate that her account has become 'orphaned' in some way.

All VM accounts, including access to email, now have to have a VMO2ID account created.  So, every mailbox now needs this account, and another 3rd party email address for verification use.  You can skip the part about linking it to O2 and you should be able to skip the part about linking to an account.

Thanks for the reply. There is no alternative route offered  to get round linking the new VMO2ID account to our main VM account. Previously my wife could access her own log in to VM mail and view her emails online and email log in details. As I said when she enters our Main account details an email is sent to my email inbox inviting me to ‘transfer’ the account to her email. But I don’t want to transfer the account, merely link it as a secondary account.

  • Whilst typing my last message my wife has been on the phone to VM support and they have reset the password and emails are now flowing back in! Thanks for your support. I'll see what email address she is using. She doesn't remember having any email in June but possible it went to junk.
