Wi-Fi signal/strength

Hi all,

I’ve recently had a garden room built and I’m struggling with WiFi connection in there, I have a 1gb package and I’m struggling to get above 30mb speeds in there on my ps5. some days it’s less than 1mb, no consistency in connection at all. I have hub5 using wireless connection.

i have tried wired via power line adapter and pods = less speeds, I’ve had several engineers out to have a look, they just seemed to fob me off (last engineer just swapped pod and said try that for 24hrs and then left)

The distance from my router to my garden room is prob less than 10m but yet my signal on my ps5 is 50-60%, I have moved ps5 back into house to check it’s not the ps5 causing issues, I get 350mb inside house. Tried switching between 2.4 and 5GHz, not much difference. (2.4 is channel 11 and 5Ghz is channel 124, not sure if that makes difference)

I’ve read somewhere that TP-link Deco x20 Home mesh Wifi6 system is good, will this work? Or will it be same as using powerline adapters?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

The only real solution is a wired ethernet connection out to the garden room.  You can get external grade Cat 6 cable that can be direct buried under the grass, flower beds etc.  Once the cable is in, you can add a Wifi access point and/or switch to give additional ports.

As for the PLA,s they really only work well if the sockets are on the same ring.   I would forget about Wifi as it is too prone to interference for an outdoor transmission.

I have a couple of powerline adaptors & they work fine, but that is not always the case. Powerlines "should" work across breakers on the same fuse board to different ring mains with different RCDs (mine do). However, there is no guarantee of this, & if the garden room is on a breakout feed separate to your main board forget about them entirely.
