Wi-Fi Settings

I have been given a (battery) video doorbell, but have been unable to connect it to my wi-fi.  I've checked the settings on the doorbell and it says that it works on a 2.4Ghz router signal.  My Virgin router is 5Ghz.  Is there anything I can do to change this please?

VM routers work on both 2.4 and 5Ghz. You should enable 2.5GHz to correct the doorbell. Some users have found in necessary to disable the 5GHz temporarily to make it easier to connect the device, and then re enable it afterwards.

  • Hello Cossart57,

    Welcome to the forums 😀

Virgin routers do broadcast both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, but some are combined under one network name. Many smart devices can’t connect unless the 2.4GHz band is separated.

    Try this:

    • Log in to your Virgin Media Hub settings (type 192.168.0.1 into your browser).
    • Go to Advanced Settings → Wireless → Wireless Signal.
    • Split the Wi‑Fi bands by turning off “Smart Wi‑Fi” or renaming the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks differently — for example: HomeWifi_2G or HomeWifi_5G
    • Connect your video doorbell to the 2.4GHz network.
    • Once it’s connected, your phone/tablet can go back to using the 5GHz network if you prefer.

After doing this, the doorbell should connect without any issues however please let us know if any issues arise, we are here to help!

Note doing this will stop any VM Pods from working.
