Ring doorbells

My Ring Doorbell 2 no longer connects reliable to VM Hub 5. This has only been an issue since last week.

If I plug in an old 2.4ghz router as an Access Point with a different SSID, into one of the ethernet ports on the Hub 5 and connect the doorbell to that then it works 100% reliable as it did.

I tried reset of doorbell to the Hub 5 with separate bandwidths and it does work ok. But as I have Pods, then I have to have combined and optimisation on. The doorbell works for about an hour, and I assume the algorithm then manages the channels etc., and then it stops working.

So I have a workaround - additional access point dedicated to the doorbell (hidden SSID).

Ring support similar to Virgin Media aren't interested as its old tech ... Ring did hint if I purchase one of their newer doorbells then it handles 5ghz better .. Of course they do, as it will create additional sales but maybe I'm just being cynical.

VM setup is unreliable suggest you send the pods back and get a better setup with hub in modem mode.

I'd be quite happy with the additional Wi-Fi AP for CCTV especially as many 2.4GHz only devices fail to work reliably with the Wi-Fi 6 of the Hub 5.   Some Wi-Fi 4 + Wi-Fi 5 wireless repeaters have been used to solve the same problem.

Pause for thought on the :  (hidden SSID)  if anything this reduces security.

Another reason to invest in a PoE doorbell me thinks.

You are correct about the Pods, they need the Hub to be "out of the box" settings to work.  Any deviations will be reset by the "Intelligent Wifi" connect app.

Your own solution of a separate AP is the answer in this case.
