Hub 5 upgrade request.

So as far as I can work out my speeds should be 1130Mbps But I am only getting 950Mbps, I have now narrowed it down to the hub4 only capable of 1Gbps speeds.

My pc is X670 AORUS Elite AX with 2.5Gbps port and other pc's in the house some are wired and all capable of wifi6.

After 2 hours waiting on chat to talk to someone who clearly had no understanding that I wanted to have a hub 5 supplied so I can get maximum advertised speeds via ethernet (cat8) instead of getting 15% less speed as I do currently.

The only answer I could get was "we checked your hub 4 and Its working" completely missing the point I was trying to make.

I also asked for a new cable that runs from the splitter box to the back  of the hub as my one is damaged (new puppy fancied a chew).

Couldn't even get the tech booking correct as I stated I don't get home before 2pm but booked 8-12 then 12-4.

I can do it myself, don't really need a tech to visit.

Honestly lost the will to live with customer service and seriously thinking of just ending my subscription.

Can anyone from Virgin get these issues sorted out for me please?

I'd fear a £25 no fault found fee if you call out an engineer on this matter.

The Hub 4 can deliver 1140Mb/s via 2 or more network sockets,
the service is not advertised as being 100% available to any one device.

      Absolutely.

OEM equipment provides expected speeds across several devices.

There are other ISPs that provide a router with a 2.5Gbps WAN port (To connect to the ONT), and no ethernet ports over 1Gbps, on their 1Gbps+ subscriptions.

You are "high spec user" so using any VM Hub in modem only mode with your own high spec router with 2.5 or 10Gb ports would suit you better.

That site is out of date now anyway with several Openreach ISP's offering 1.6/1.8Gbps.

A point that is often missed is that VM have NEVER ever said that the speed delivered is to one end point. It is the total speed delivered over multiple devices.

People don't care about it being that way and do other ISP do the same?

  • Had the damaged wire replaced today, and told the tech visitor that the hub 4 has not been reliable over the last few months anyway (which is true) does have signs that it was a bit battered from the builders dropping it a while back.

He also installed the Hub 5 and it works perfectly and getting much higher and reliable speeds, the last hub struggled above 700Mbps (wired) max 950

Now hits max speed and the wifi speeds are much faster on the devices like our phones using the wifi.

Basically my stuff runs from the VM hub and the kids and other peoples stuff runs on the Deco mesh network.
