Unable to Block Apps on Tivo Box

One of kids could access Rakuten from apps page at top of home screen and content we think is not suitable. I was unable to block the app, the instructions are supposedly this:
Help & Settings> Parental Controls> enter PIN, and select Lock Apps & Games. Highlight the app you want to lock and press OK on the remote. Confirm by selecting Use these settings

There are 2 apps already blocked or locked when I navigate to that page but no option to block other apps, no menu to view other apps to block, no option to amend what is there, pressing right or left takes me out of menu, up or down does nothing. Tried going to the Rakuten app and long press ok as read this can work but just takes me into the app. Raised complaint with VM who replied with instructions how to lock channels or hide adult channels, not apps. Does anyone have a solution to this?

  • Hi Waldner71 👋 Welcome to the community forum! Thanks for posting.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties getting the Ratuken app locked on your TV box! We've had a look and have been able to replicate this same issue on another V6, so it looks like this is standard for the box functionality at the moment.

I've raised it internally for the team to investigate, and see if we can get this fixed in the next update. Please ensure you regularly reboot the box from the switch at the back!

If it's a big concern for you, we can look at getting you upgraded to TV360 instead - as the functionality works fine on that box! Just let us know if this is something you'd be interested in.

It may also be worth checking out the helpful link and advice from nodrogd too!

Thanks for your patience whilst we continue to investigate. All the best. 🌞

That certain apps are available to be locked, and others aren't, suggests to me that it's a relatively simple box-ticking exercise to opt particular apps in or out of the functionality.

There may be a technical change required, and very likely a policy decision - but I don't see how the TiVo-firmware would be a limitation.

  • Thanks for all your replies. I took the first option, registered a Rakuten account on their website, then adjusted the age rating for content in the parental controls.
