No need to upgrade to 360 to watch skysports+

Just in case there are people worried about having to upgrade and/or not knowing, you can still access all skysports games (which were dubiously promoted to only be on 360 boxes or software) on v6 tivo boxes via skysports football and by pressing red there. Feel sorry for all those who bottled it and upgraded or as someone else on here said downgraded to 360. Apologies if someone else has posted this but if my post helps one person out, happy days. so just to clarify.

Even though it was rather misleading...you can still watch all the extra games on sky sports this year using skysports football channel ( not too sure about tennis/rugby etc, im sure its on one of the other channels)

Not actually correct. The V6 Red button is a compressed broadcast stream & is restricted to maximum 6 streams. The V360 Red button is internet driven & can carry considerably more.

The difference in offerings for the two methods this month are listed here:

  • When I went to channel 508 and hit the red button, all I got was a message telling me there were no games available

      Hi dartguru

Did you try the red button on channel 503 (Sky Sports Football HD)?

No just 508, but I'll try that tonight, thanks.

V6 customers do not have the Sky Sports + internet service app, only the broadcast channel. Hence the Red button on Sky Sports + (508) does not work. The Red button app on V6 is linked to Sky Sports Football (503/513) only.

With respect, you're confidently wrong.  I am currently watching Coventry v Norwich, one of 5 games available on my V6 box this lunchtime via 508 and the red button, then pressing the info button.

Posting this to ensure you don't inadvertently persuade anyone else that they need a 360 to get at least some of this service.  I appreciate from other posts in the thread that it might not be identical (and it's fair to say that the stream I'm watching is internet tv rather than broadcast quality but I suspect that is the case on the 360 too).

  • Adtree, this isn't actually true.

Yes there are some streams available on the V6 Sky Sports + platform, it isn't the full Sky Sports + experience you'd get on the 360 box.

Sorry to rain on your parade.

Sky Sports+ is a taste of what's coming, i.e. IPTV where content is streamed over IP. The only reason why Sky Sports+ has a linear channel (508) is probably because of contractual obligations, but you can bet those obligations won't be around in an all-IPTV future.

The 360 red button's app enables Sky Sports+ to be delivered. I remain skeptical that the V6 will have a similar facility.
