HDMI AV converter V6 and TV360 issues

Hi I have been told i need to upgrade 3 boxes at home from 2x trivo and 1x V6 because the Trivo will no longer support Netflix. issue we have is one of the Trivo boxes is connected to a TV that only has Scart connection and the wiring is hard wired through two walls so only way to connect HDMI would be to buy new TV and replaster two walls...(not happening). Virgin engineer came last week to see what to do and said we should get a hdmi to component converter (virgin agreed to pay for this ) we bought one and engineer here today,..we get picture from a V6 box but no sound through the converter...(he would not connect to TV360 as this would require activating it and then we would not be able to reverse upgrade). 

He has no idea why not working,.,.i suggested it could be an HDCP 2,.2 issue (not sure if V6 has HDCP) he said he didnt know what what was. I have tested the converter and HDMI cable using my Apple Mac and the TV and it is all fine. So the issue is the HDMI output from the virgin v6 box (and the engineer assumes will be same on 360 box).

The issue is Virgin will not allow us to upgrade two of the boxes to 360 and keep the old trivo..so we either have no TV upstairs...and have netflix downstairs...or we have to accept no netflix in the house other than via PC or smart TV in other room. 

Any ideas as to why there may be issue getting no sound through converter when we know it is working? The fact that engineer, virgin tech and sales team have no idea is really poor (especially when it was them that told me to order the converter).

Their customer service has been shocking and lack of technical knowledge from their "experts" just incredible.

Any ideas?

    If you buy a HDMI splitter when it spits one HDMI signal to two (usually for two tvs), that device removes the HDCP signal. From there you could try the converter.

    In regards to the comment about "experts" Virgin are not allowed to openly educate you or their engineers on how to bypass HDCP.  It's there for a reason. So I think it's unfair your expecting support essentially bypassing an encryption virgin are required to provide

    Don't forget you don't have to accept the 360 as a replacement for the old Tivo's.  You can ask for V6's as replacements.

    Also to confirm, the Netflix app is NOT being removed from the V6 TiVO, only the older TiVO 500 boxes. If you only use the V6 box to access Netflix, there is no need to change anything. So if you still need the SCART facility, do not change anything & swap boxes around as necessary, bearing in mind that if a TiVO 500 fails it must be replaced by a V6.

    PS. I have no doubt that the converter you have converts to analogue COMPOSITE VIDEO, not Component video, which is a legacy digital format & is not compatible with analogue SCART connections.

    What is the converter they have given you? If there is a make/model number we may be able to assist.

    My experience of HDMI to SCART is that these adapters are flaky at best and it makes no sense to keep hanging onto obsolete technology. If you want to keep using that old TV in modern times you cannot and will have to replace it. Furthermore a replacement V6 or 360 will need a network connection and an Ethernet cable is best, so start drilling.

    Don't know if you resolved this with it being 7 months on but I hope you didn't opt for the 360's because that's all Virgin will try & push you onto.

    Worst piece of **** I've ever had & had I known this & that I could've kept my V6 boxes when I moved home 2 years back I'd have never accepted the 360.

    No additional tuners (had 6 in the old boxes), unable to recover deleted recordings if someone gets rid not knowing you've not watched, & mostly cloud/streaming based.

    Also additional boxes don't have an HDD for recordings but all share the one in main 360 box so dropped from 2TB to 1TB being shared, plus the other 360 mini boxes as they're called need main box constantly receiving power for them to operate.

    If you still not upgraded or solved your issues don't hesitate to go for the V6 boxes, but avoid 360 like the plague as the scum refuse to switch you back to what was the best box after lying by saying you have to have a 360 because V6 no longer being supported.

      The V360 boxes still have 6 tuners, but these do not buffer unless they are specifically recording requested content. This is because the recordings are controlled by a central server and not the box itself.

      Stream boxes are now provided as standard with multiroom, as they can be self installed without the need of additional coax points.

      With VM moving to FTTP across the entire UK network over the next few years, the days of recording from traditional DVB-C boxes are numbered.
