Email saying my TV box needs an upgrade

I just got an email with a heading that very much makes it sound like I do have a TV box that NEEDS an upgrade! The wording after this misleading heading however makes it clear that the box im using has old software and I can upgrade for free to the TV360 box.

Now, I was offered this a while back and at the time it was all rush rush get the upgrade for free before we charge you. I ummed and ahhed and tried to upgrade via my tv as prompted but it kept saying error. Then I read comments on here about how user unfriendly it was and how many features were missing so im glad I failed! Duly, I forgot this experience!

Until now... when I get this email! Its not a forced upgrade so my question is, really is it worth the hassle and faff? Comments here suggest not and that people regret switching! I dont want to lose my recordings either or series links!

At the moment this is voluntary change that benefits VM, not you. If your present TV box is working, just ignore the message.

    Knows their stuff

Think you've answered your own question. If you value your recordings, and all the Tivo functions the 360 doesn't have, don't do it.  They need your permission to do this, as it wipes recordings. Its saving them a load on Tivo licences which is why they are so keen. Just to be replaced by their own cheaper/inferior Horizon software.

I can hear the the managment meeting now, "just call it an 'upgrade', and the punters will fall for it !"

TiVo-firmware, which drives the TiVo & V6 boxes, is very recording-centric and remains fully supported.

Horizon-firmware, driving the TV360 platform, is very much the focus of VM's marketing and is online-centric.

Losing your recordings & series-links is very much part of the reformat & migration process.
