TiVo upgrade to V6?

I have had a TiVo box for many years; it has recently been having signal issues so I was thinking of asking for a v6 upgrade. Firstly, I would like to know if virgin will let me upgrade to a v6 box, and secondly, I currently use a video sender with my TiVo connected to the scart to send tv upstairs. I know v6 doesn't have a scart, if I get a v6 upgrade, is there a work around for this?  Thank you.

    Two bits here.

1: The legacy TiVo is the last of VM's TV boxes to support Scart - newer boxes have HDMI output. You'll need to find a third-party HDMI wireless sender or somesuch, and make sure it's HDCP2.2 compliant. Your alternative would be to have a multi-room subscription.

2: Can of worms here... All of VM's marketing focus is on encouraging migrations from TiVo/V6 onto TV360. V6 & TV360 use the same physical box but with very different software - TiVo is very recording-focused, TV360 (which uses Horizon-software) is very app & online-driven instead. Many of their CS policies are therefore geared towards this end.

TiVo's with a diagnosed service fault are swapped out for V6, but any request for a box-swap or upgrade is likely to be taken as a request for a migration to TV360. Given that there's many significant functional differences between TiVo & Horizon-firmware, it's your choice whether you're just looking for a newer box or whether you want/don't want to convert.

  • Hi Jimbo3150,

Thanks for posting, and sorry to hear you're having some issues with your TV box.

Can you confirm if you've run through the diagnostics online here already?

      Hello Alex.

Nope i am still having issues, most the channels unwatchable in the evenings, diagnostic is showing high fluctuating numbers on the RS uncorrected on the channels im having issues with, into 3 figures.... Is there anything i can do or is an engineer required? As the other post have suggested, if i need to replace my tivo, can i ask for it to be a v6. Thank you.

Dont ask for a box change, but just report your Tivo as faulty. They are supposed to give a V6 in such circumstances,  if you ask for a swap you'll get a 360  which isn't as good. As for the scart there are hdmi / scart converters out there, not expensive.

Good advice Mr. I have asked if my tivo needs replacing, go for a v6 and grab a converter to carry on beaming. ;-)
