Tivo boxes

I had a virgin media engineer appointment cancelled at a few hours notice on 23rd December (no broadband connection, impossible to use iplayer on Tivo) which was cancelled by text message on the basis that all faults had been fixed remotely by Virgin Media.

Anyone know how to use iplayer on the allegedly fixed Tivo box?    I just keep getting error messages.

  • that reply is no help whatsoever because clearly Virgin Media believe the box can be fixed remotely, which is why they cancelled the engineer visit

VM will cancel appointments if they find that the broadband fault is external to your property.  As explained they cannot 'fix' the Tivo remotely as the iPlayer no longer works on any original TiVo.

You mention problems with playing iPlayer on a tivo box. As indicated by Graham_A  the iPlayer app stopped working with and was actually withdrawn from tivo boxes on 23rd July 2005.  There were constant onscreen messages advising that iPlayer would no longer work along with an invitation to upgrade the set top box.

Does VM supply your broadband?  If so do you have any broadband issues?

What error code and message is displayed when trying to use Iplayer on your 'tivo' box?

Which actual VM TV set top box do you have?

Is the remote control for the VM set top box peanut shaped  or oblong shaped?

the original one, so I don't understand why Virgin Media think it can be made to work remotely without an engineer appointment to swap it

purpleorchid.  The BBC iPlayer stopped working on VM Tivo boxes in July 2025.  You need either a V6 TiVo box or a 360 Horizon box to use iPlayer via VM. Most Smart TVs offer the iPlayer app as standard.
