Request to Remove External Virgin Media Box and Cable

I’m a former Virgin Media customer. After moving out of my previous property, the landlord has requested that the white Virgin Media wall box and external cable be removed from the building.

I’m no longer a customer, and I’d like to know:

 • Can Virgin Media arrange for someone to remove the external box and cabling?

 • Is there any cost involved?

 • What is the correct process to request this as a former tenant?

I’ve already left the property, so I would not be able to grant access myself, but I can pass on the necessary information to the landlord if needed.

Thanks in advance for your help!

So what if the new person wants VM?

what does the landlord gain by removing it? why not rip out all the plug sockets too!

VM generally won't come to remove cabling from a former customer unless there is a H&S issue involved.

As per legacy1 though, it could be argued that having a working VM connection in the home could be a benefit to the landlord to attract future tenants who want VM.

Why does the landlord want the connection removed? Did you get permission from the landlord to install VM in the first place?

to try and answer your question rather than raising more questions - VM are very unlikely to do anything - short answer is remove it youself which is difficult as you are no longer there or ask the landlord to remove it - screwdriver and wire cutters are all he needs - perfectly safe - its data not voltage

  • Hello LamHK.

Thanks for your post regarding the removal of the wiring.

As -tony- has advised, we tend to not remove any cabling as it would cost us to do that and then cost us to add again if a new tenant wanted our services.

By all means you can mention to the Landlord it's possible to them and safe to do so.
