Transferring an email account

My friends dad has passed away and unfortunately his blueyonder email account is registered to his dad’s virgin login. Can he have his blueyonder email account detached from his dad’s virgin account and added to his own virgin account so he can access his emails? I’ve tried calling up but I believe they are misunderstanding what I am asking and just try to change his email login name and not move his email account over

  • Hello C-R-A-I-G,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. We're sorry to hear of the passing your friends dad.

Email addresses assigned to individual accounts are not transferable to different accounts. However, under a very specific set of conditions, it is possible to transfer all email addresses from one VM account to another VM account; this process, however, results in the deletion of any email addresses that are already associated with the receiving account.

    Kind Regards,

    Steven_L

Hi Steven, the one it needs transferring to has no blueyonder or virgin media email attached, only a 3rd party Hotmail account to log in to his virgin media account. How would I go about getting this sorted for him? The email address that needs moving is in the same details as the account it needs moving to.

Don't forget that after 90 days of the account being closed, all mailboxes are deleted.  Is the deceased account closed, if so the clock is ticking.

        Hi C-R-A-I-G,

Just to clarify for us please, does your friend have an existing account with us? Or is he transferring his late fathers account into his own name?

Please pop back to us when you can.
