Downgrading

On the VM website, in more than one place, it says both upgrade and downgrade options are available online. However, when you follow the links, only upgrades are available, and there does not seem any way to edit your existing package,

Like others, I might stay with VM if I could downgrade a bit, but as they do not appear to make that available online, despite stating that they do, it's impossible. I don't want to talk to a salesman. I want to ditch some things and get the best value on what remains. Why can I not do that on the site via the pages that say I can?

Can't recall any past topics on here where a customer has ever found an online option to downgrade. VM doesn't like the word downgrade. It only likes upgrades.

The only way, AFAIK, to downgrade and reduce your package is to get in touch with VM and negotiate for the service(s)/price you actually want.

Good spot. You can't downgrade online, so the wording is misleading. They need to change it, or horror of horrors, actually allow customer to downgrade online ( won't happen!)

  • Ive just been told by VM that downgrading my BB would still leave me paying the same price lol

I asked for new deal the offer was a joke. Asked to have BB that was funnier 50. I will sacrifice speed and a dish back on the side of my house.

We're sorry to hear you're having an issue with looking at options on your package for a downgrade. Depending on the discounts and services you have, will depend on whether the option is available online. This is something we can certainly check for you but in order to do that I'll need to confirm some information with you to pass security.

I have sent you a direct message to allow us to do this with you in a private space. Just click on the little ✉ at the top right-hand side of the page to access your inbox. :)

It seems stupid that upgrades to VM tv/phone/broadband packages only are possible and no downgrade options online, it should be possible to do both and see what the bundle costs are for comparison.

Perhaps VM would retain more customers if customers had the ability to control their package online without having to negotiate by telephone, and especially for a rolling monthly charges which I have at present.

This amounts to a lack of flexibility byVM,perhaps to keep customers on high cost bundles.

Following the 7% inflaltion rise I decided to downgrade to M50 broadband and Mixit tv thus saving  approx £11 on my rolling contract. I did not want a fixed contract at present which would be cheaper but may do that in the future. The new package works well for me, I just lost a few tv channels, the lower speed still seems good up to now. I retained my phone and anytime calls, the cost is still expensive compared to an 18 month deal.

I found the process quick  and easy by ringing up the retention team and changed over the next day confirmed by email.

The prices are high but the service/package is very good especially with the desktop phone (landline) which I prefer, which  some fibre providers not longer offer, just sim mobile options.

Other companies are now installing fibre in my area, but just broadband only offered.
