Can't Link Virgin Media O2 ID to Virgin Media Account - Email Address Error

Trying to link Virgin Media O2 ID to my Virgin Media account, both setup with the same email address, but I get the following message.

We’ve found your Virgin Media account - However, this account is linked to an email address that’s different to the one on your Virgin Media O2 ID.

If you’d like to continue and link your Virgin Media account to your Virgin Media O2 ID, please confirm the full email address your Virgin Media account is currently registered to.

I have see a lot of posts regarding this issue and none of the "fixes" have worked.

    What's happening exactly when you confirm the full e-mail address your Virgin Media account is currently registered to?

      Hi, I have the same problem as edearing. 

      My Virgin Media account is linked, or says it is, to an old non existent email address, although I login, or used to, with my current email address.

      So, when I try to link my Virgin Media account with the Virgin Media 02 ID, which is linked to my 02 account, it give the same message as described by edearing.

      "We’ve found your Virgin Media account - However, this account is linked to an email address that’s different to the one on your Virgin Media O2 ID.

      If you’d like to continue and link your Virgin Media account to your Virgin Media O2 ID, please confirm the full email address your Virgin Media account is currently registered to."

      So, you go in a loop and never login to VM as it kicks you to the linking page, which doesn't work cos the email address to a 20 year email account i used to use.
