Cable my street

Hi I'm just wondering if I could get some information if it's likely my street will be cabled in the near future? I noticed there's some cables being installed a street over and further back from there.

I've attached an image to show where they're being installed, we live between Wardle St and Sandal St and are all currently connected to an old bt cabinet and community funding an upgrade would cost us £5k through openreach even though there are fibre enabled cabinets within 20 metres and we live walking distance to the centre of manchester.

  • Hello Kath and Virgin Media team

    My street is currently not cabled, but the surrounding ones are. I have signed up for updates and asked for someone to look into it, but haven't heard anything for a very long time.  Please can someone look into it just so I have an idea if it is even a possibility in the remote future?

      Hi Dave881, 

      Thanks for your patience on this one. 

      The teams have come back to advise that your address IS in the plans under reference: NBU 52694. 

      There are no estimated completion dates loaded on the system yet however plans to start work will be within 2019. 

      Still a while off however atleast you're in the plans :D 

      Check back in with us next year for an update.

      Plans are fully booked for 2018 and most if not all of 2019 by now. If you haven’t heard anything I wouldn’t expect anything for the next year.

  • Hi, I was wondering if you could tell me if my street is likely to be cabled in the future, I've registered on Cable My Street a couple of years ago but never heard anything.

  • Hi

    Was with Virgin for years and moved house nearly two years ago. Would love to move to Virgin, but it's not available. The estate is a about 12 years old, the frustrating thing is the older estates around it are all cabled for Virgin

    Any chance of checking if we have any chance? Will PM postcode

      The team have come back today with the following: I have looked into the area that this address is located and currently there are no plans for install in this area.

  • hello i had the same issue i live in a cul-de-sac with 30 houses and you cabled numbers 1-20 and then left... 

    1, what was the point in doing that 

    2, will they ever be back

    3, im sick of getting oh sign up for cable my street... i did and you did half of it and now you did half of the street i have 50% less interest in my street!!!

      Thanks for your patience whilst I waited for news from the team on this one. 

      They have come back to me today to advise: 'This address was part of a larger opportunity that was cancelled for excessive costs. It may be looked at again in the future but we can see no plans at the moment.'

      This may be something that changes in the future but not until at least 2020.

        Hi

        We live in the villages outside of Didcot.  BT is our provider in this area with no Virgin available this far in the area.  I’ve requested via ‘Cable my Street’ in the past, but it still looks like there is no light in the horizon and we’re stuck with sub-par (putting it mildly) phone and broadband connection with BT.

        Are there any rural initiatives planned for connectivity with cable in the future?

      Hi benjiib,

      Thanks for your post and it's great to hear that you are looking at having Virgin Media installed.

      As much as we would love to be able to install everybody, sometimes it's just not possible. There are some areas where part of some streets have been cabled and others haven't so your issue isn't as uncommon as you'd think. 

      We already have a full 2018 roll out planned as well as most of 2019 for new areas and New Builds too but we won't be doing any more in-filling now.

      I'm not sure what changed in the plans but our street is being cabled as we speak...

      Although the website hasn't changed to reflect this and still shows register interest.

      I was just wondering how long the wait usually is from being cabled to when we can place an order or get connected? I'm beyond excited to finally get a decent connection set up.

        once the street has been cabled, since a lot of work required behind the scenes, running cables to the head end.. a lot of work on the databases, DHCP etc.. this can take weeks to months.

      I'll check back again in the new year, but if there's any way you can bring attention to specific places then that would be helpful as we're an area within walking distance of Manchester city centre without access to fibre and no plans from openreach either so I'm sure lots of people would sign up to Virgin Media. And given its close proximity to a street that is being cabled...
