I currently have a discount on the previous contract, which makes the monthly payment £83 and some pence. That is said to stay until July this year and I agreed to stick with my contract for the 18 months up to that date, presumably so that I could keep the discount. If VM and I have contractually agreed to stay and abide by the 18 month clause, what should I do now? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Logging in with passkeys About 4 months back I asked for the little box that offered the use of a passkey to sign in. Had various replies which amounted to, VM might do that - in time. I'm pleased to see that I can now log in with a passkey as I had done before. I should now like to thank whoever it was that made the effort to make that facility available. Thanks to all involved :-) Cheers Re: Passkey for Desktop Thanks Martin It was more a request than a suggestion. I'm not going to get myself a security key - it's another thing to fiddle with and something else to lose. Yes, I know it is secure, but I'll stick, My neighbour has also been shut out from his existing devices and, no, he has not changed them as I just did. Neither of us can get to our accounts or emails. I suspect more queries like this will arise. Maybe the boys with the coding can pre-empt that - it will save you a lot of hassle. I don't care about my account and I'm glad I bought my own email and domain. It was cheap too. Cheers. Re: Passkey for Desktop Hi Sabrina I'm back again. I've been shut out altogether now by VM's insistence that I must have either Android, or a security key. There is no option to enter my passkey and it looks as if I can't use my password either. The other sites I use, provide the little dialog box that says "enter passkey." I understand the need for security and the benefits to us of the checks that ensure our identity is safe, but this is a step too far and is effectively locking me out. (and, hopefully, everyone else who tries to get my account by stealth.) Can you possibly influence someone to add that facility, please. It is a safe way of protecting access and can only go wrong if someone steals my desktop. My mobile phone is limited to making and receiving calls. I'm sure there will be at least three of your customers who will need to buy new devices when Win 10 moves out. Help, please. :-) Re: Passkey for Desktop Hi Sabrina I don't like to be difficult or argue, because I'm speaking from a position of ignorance. I've been using passkeys for about a year now and my Win 11 laptop's relationship with VM is happy one. But, now, with a stranger in my house in the form of the new desktop, it seems VM does not trust it (and neither do I yet until I get familiar with it). As I said earlier, the other sites I use were able to do it by putting up the dialogue box with a space in which to type the passkey. Given that, I "get in" instantly. I've been tempted many times to change my Hello pin and put the same key back in, but I believe I will be chucked out unceremoniously. I'll keep trying to sort it, but if VM would allow a bit of typing instead of assuming we all live on Yubikey things, I for one will be glad. I imagine there will be a big increase in this query when other machines are replaced. Thank you for your help so far - there's not much help from other sources. I even tried AI, but it gave a daft answer. :-) Re: Passkey for Desktop Hi John I understand that, thanks. I have a new Win 11 desktop which I bought to replace my Win 10 one, because that will eventually not be supported. It's the new desktop where I'm having the difficulty. I can live without using the passkey for VM, but I'd like to go back to using the passkey. I did get into my VM account via the email link, and I see that it is recorded that I am on passwordless and am using a passkey. I don't want to mess about with that yet, if VM can add in the little dialogue box that allows (did allow) me to manually enter my passkey. Sorry to nag, but I can't think of any other way to get around this. Re: Passkey for Desktop Hi Everyone I had to come back! I overlooked the fact that I was still logged in. Sorry! I've set up my other accounts with the original passkey, but I just can't get into VM with it. It is the same key I've been using for months on sites, including VM. The way it worked was for a dialogue box to appear on the screen, which included the option of entering a passkey. Before that was the choice of email and passwords, with another line saying something like 'try another way.' That last bit brought up the passkey dialoogue and worked fine. With VM that doesn't happen. It gives the dialogue box with choices for android etc, but 'trying the other way' sends me an email link. That gets me into my account and my email. In my account I am able to edit my passkeys, but I end up getting the email link, so I gave in then. Is it possible for VM to include the box into which I can simply enter the passkey. Re: Passkey for Desktop Hi Robert and everyone. That did it !!!! :-) :-) And to think I've been struggling all day with it! I found the setting that said " only allow Hello for sign in for Microsoft account on this device" turned it off, although it inferred that security would be weakened. However, I changed the setting to "allow all" and was immediately able to log in to me VM email. Thanks everyone. I can now go away rejoicing :-) Re: Passkey for Desktop Hi goslow Thanks for your reply and sorry for being vague. The "slot" I raved about is where VM and Google offer the choice for entering passkeys. They only show Android and "Yubikey" but I don't have either of those. It then goes to the other sign option where it sends a link to my other email and that works ok - I can log in that way. Re: Passkey for Desktop Hi Adduxi I thought that was the case, because that is what I've been doing when I had the old desktop. I was offered the Hello pin and did that successfully. I have been able to do the same passkey now with MS 365 and Amazon, because they both showed the option to take one. I want to continue to use the same passkey on the new one for other sites that already recognise that one. It is safe enough because I've destroyed the old desktop drive. I have again used the same passkey/pin to start up the new desktop and as I said above, it is ok for those two websites. The "slot" I raved about is where VM and Google don't offer the choice. They only show Android and "Yubikey" but I don't have either of those. I think I've only got one choice now and that is to go for changing the pin number via my settings on Win 11 by re-entering the one already in use. I'm afraid to chance that, in case I'm told that the number already exists. I'm sorry I didn't say this clearly, but if it needs more, please ask. Thanks for helping this far.
