Much more consistent speed tests on the fingbox at ~500 (I wonder if that's what it can cope with) In the last few weeks I've seen 900Mbit download speeds happen at least once so it can do it. speed tests right now in the evening running at about 650. I've also had a letter through the door regarding planned works on the network in my area. We've had a number of outages lately (complete outages - Even the landline phone) so hopefully things will continue to improve. Re: Get the most from your Gig1 service and Hub 4 @tigga I doubt it's a PC issue. It's quite a high spec laptop with an SSD drive. And it can happily transfer at full gigabit speeds to and from stuff on the LAN. I also have a FingBox network monitor. It's sole job is to monitor network conditions and tests throughput at different random times of the day and records the history to graph. The results are all over the place. It's generally around the 300-400Mbit area. On the odd occasions it goes above 500 but I don't think I've ever seen it above 550 and at busy times it can drop well below 200. I have a gut feeling that there are both network congestion issues and a lack of processing power in the Superhub. It will frequently crash when accessing the GUI and mine's in modem mode so it shouldn't be working too hard. Whether the cause of the problem is network congestion or superhub inadequacies, the fact that the built in Samknows test reports full speeds is probably because it's being prioritised, or the test happens without any of the inadequate routing capabilies of the superbhub being used. But if doesn't report real world usable, achievable speed statistics, then it's useless. Incidentally you can't use the built in samknows test while it's in modem mode so it's a faff to run if you have a problem. Re: Get the most from your Gig1 service and Hub 4 I've just signed up to gig.1 I could have gone to 350 with no contract but for 3 quid more and an 18 month contract - Why not. Because it seems like it's a fiddling of the figures to me. Notice how they bleat on about sharing the speed. It appears that it can't shovel that entire gigabit down one connection. They have their samknows test built in so that they can point at that and go "Look it's fine" But with my laptop directly connected to the router using the cable they supplied I get ~1100 to the superhub and ~300 to my PC. The only device on the network. Well surely if you've got this thing in cable modem mode you'll always be limited to that. My fingbox is reporting ~400Mbit. Anybody else had any better experience in cable modem mode? EDIT: I have just watched the youtube review above where she gets 900+ Mbit/s. Makes me doubt the validity of the built in SAM Knows test. Is it just an animated gif 😉
