V6 box outputs signal via spdif periodically when in standby?

I have the audio from the V6 coming via the optical out to a splitter into audio amp. The other input to the splitter is the optical audio from a Playstation.

The splitter will only accept one audio signal at a time (not surprisingly!) so when the V6 box is in standby I get audio from the Playstation.

The problem is that the V6 box apparently puts out some audio signal (not actual audio) periodically when in standby, which shuts off the Playstation audio. If I unplug the toslink from the V6 the Playstation audio is restored, same if I power of the V6 completely.

Mysterious as to why it periodically puts out some signal (it isn't actually audio though) when in standby. It can be a few minutes after putting in standby, or longer.

Any solution?

Replace the splitter with a switch.

Thanks @Roger_Gooner. Trying to avoid further expense but that may be the only solution if there is no way of shutting off the audio.
