TiVo says i don't have enough disk space even though it's only on 58% full

I tried to record something this morning on the TiVo in the bedroom and when I did my TiVo said that it wouldn't record other things as there wasn't enough disk space (although it's only 58% full).  I get that it may feel like it's going to be full in a couple of weeks time if nothing gets deleted but it makes no sense that it won't record something today (says that other things will be cancelled/clipped for later today if I go ahead and record the program) when I might have deleted things by next week.

Why doesn't it wait until it's at about 90% before you start getting warnings?

As a side note, and this makes me wonder if it's something to do with settings, maybe?  Although, I think everything is set-up identically.  On my TiVo in the living room, it's also 58% full but I don't get the same message?

Thanks in advance

The part of the message "some shows may be marked as KUID" is the clue here.

Altering the SL settings will amend future planned recordings, except for manual & one-off recordings which would need to be individually altered.

You'll need to trawl your "My shows" list and check/mend each recording in there. Once you've done that, you may need to give your V6 a precautionary reboot.

Do you definitely have TiVo's and not V6? Check if you're not sure .... https://www.virginmedia.com/care/tv-fault/which-tv-box

You can check via Home > Help & Settings > System Info > System Info.. about 2/3 the way down the first screen, and compare the free disk space with that displayed in "My shows".

Can you post a picture or screenshot of the "disk space" error that you're getting? It's an unusual one.

Sorry, yes it's a V6 - can't get out of the habit of calling it a TiVo lolTiVo 20241016_065636.jpg

Ok, I'm with you. A couple of things to check here..

1: Follow Home > Help & Settings > System Info > System Info.. about 2/3 the way down the first screen, and compare the free disk space with that displayed in "My shows". Do the two sets of figures broadly tally? How about if you restart your V6 via Home > Help & Settings > Clear or reset TiVo > restart the TiVo box

2: Are your recordings being set to "Keep until I delete"? You can check the default using Home > Help & Settings > Settings > Series Link & Recording Options > 3rd line from the bottom. "Keep until space needed" is usually the safer option, I've had my V6 upto 97% full in the past and never had a problem with older recordings being deleted - but I wouldn't push it anymore!!

Great, thanks - I'll try those things and get back to you (I do have my recording as "Keep Until I Delete")

That's likely to be your underlying problem. If older recordings can't be "managed" for disk space, then the V6 has to do so with planned recordings instead. "Keep until space needed" is the recommended setting.

All you can do is ensure the two methods for checking disk space, are broadly in line. This proves the FAT & recordings database are clean.

Hey @flipflop104 Thanks for reaching out to us on here via the forums page.

I'm sorry to hear about the issues with the disc space saying it's full. 😢
Has the advice given on the forums assisted with the issue?

Or is the error message still there?
Let us know and we can assist from there.

Kind regards,
Ilyas.

I checked this "1: Follow Home > Help & Settings > System Info > System Info.. about 2/3 the way down the first screen, and compare the free disk space with that displayed in "My shows". Do the two sets of figures broadly tally?" and they both match up

I have changed my recording settings to "Keep Until Space Needed" and I was looking through the other day and something that is set to series link is showing as not going to record next week (the little series link icon has gone from the programme guide and when I pressed the record button to force it to record manually I got the following message (see pic) even though there's only 62% taken on the box.V6 20241020_120034.jpg
