TV cable to second room

Tuning in

Hello, I'd be grateful for your help. We have our V6 TV box and Virgin router in one room. We want to keep that there and have another V6 box in another room. Virgin has sent us a new V6 box and a coaxial cable. I think we'll need to get virgin to come and update the wall box to fit the extra coax cable to the system. But we've got building work going on, so going to run the coax cable under the floorboards now.

My questions are - 1. Does it matter which end goes in which room? The cable looks to be the same both ends but is labelled differently. Pictures attached. 2. Is there anything else me need to think about?

 Thank you, Russ

You need a VM technician’s visit to install a new cable and wall box and also he will supply a splitter. The cable you have been supplied with is only to be used from the wall box to the TV box.

The primary place to report faults or for service requests is Customer Services on 0345 454 1111/150 if you have a VM landline or wait two or three days for a VM staff member to get to your post.

Thank you Tudor. That's very helpful.

We're right in the middle of the building project so ideally need our electrician to do it whilst all the floorboards are up this week. Would it be possible for the electrician to run the correct cable this week and then the VM engineer to do the wall boxes after? As I'm guessing there will be a wait until they are free.

Could the wall box for the new room be installed in the current room, and then that cable could be run from the first room to the new room box perhaps?

Thank you.

Hi Russ_internet, thank  you for joining our help forums and for your first post here.
We're delighted to have you on board, a warm welcome to the VM community. 🙂

Sorry to see there's an issue with installing the second TV box due to the wall coax socket being too far, from what you've advised this will need a splitter to be able to add the second coax for TV there and perhaps an engineer to ensure the correct set up.

We appreciate that you'd wish to get an electrician to do this since you already make some house works currently, however we'd need this to be a qualified VM engineer so we can ensure and guarantee the service.
Any interference by other than VM staff might lead to further issues which we may be unable to resolve without a tech visit that's chargeable - this is  not what we want for our customers really.

About the install issue, we can see into arranging a visit from our engineer to get your new box set up.
In order to share more info and determine this I will send you a PM here shortly.

Please, check the top right-hand side of our page to find a white envelope.

You've got the option to use Wi-Fi for any stuff that the box has to connect to broadband for, but for better reliability you should run a Cat 6 Ethernet cable from the hub to where the new box is located. Ask the engineer if they can run a suitable length of Cat 6 Ethernet cable for you whilst they run the Coax cable
