Noisy Tivo Box

My Tivo box has started making grinding & popping noises. I tried rining Virgin but gave up after 35 minutes. I'm worried to leave on standby. Is it safe to use?

Re: Noisy Tivo Box

There are three parts of the V6 box that can cause audible noise.

1. The cooling fan
2. The integral disk drive
3. The power 'brick'

How old is your V6? Fans have a limited life (as do HDDs) but that life can vary quite a bit based on environmental conditions.

Any fluffy pets or other potentially clogging emissions?

Re: Noisy Tivo Box

OK. Pets are good, btw, good stress relief; especially if you are having problems with your tv setup.

Anyway;

Given that you have had your V6 box for a few years, did the noise increase suddenly or gradually over a period of time?

Also, can you describe the noise? Is it a whir or rumble? Does it come and go? How loud is it?

In the mean time get a Burmese cat - a good halfway house between a cat and a dog!

Re: Noisy Tivo Box

The noise started suddenly & it's more like a popping noise. I agree pets are a great stress relief. Love dogs
