Re: 4K Upscaling - V6 or tv - it's your choice

Whilst watching the end of Who Do You Think You Are this week, I discovered the promo on the right of the credits was cropped. I had recently changed my display settings to all the 1080s and 2160s.

When I changed back to just the 2160s, the cropping disappeared.

In the photos I've attached you will see the cropping of both the promo and the top credit in one photo (the 1080) compared to the 2160 upscaled version.

The cropping is also quite noticeable in the preview window whilst in the guide.

EDIT: I tried to attach pics, but the post got rejected 😕

Re: 4K Upscaling - V6 or tv - it's your choice

On you tv's menus there is a setting called 'Full Scan' or 'Over Scan'. It may even be called something like 'Full Zoom'. Different manufacturers call it different things.

On 2160 this is usually not available as the tv will show the entire screen so you are seeing everything.

On 1080 this is usually defaulted to off - so the screen is slightly zoomed in.

So if you do not like the slight loss of picture - adjust the tv setting to ON for the scan.

Thanks for that!

It was set to Auto... which you think would be ideal. Selecting On fixed the issue 🙂

Re: 4K Upscaling - V6 or tv - it's your choice

Overscan is a throwback to the days of CRT TVs and should have no place in today's TVs, but for a reason I cannot fathom it's often on by default. Whenever I get a new TV I always disable overscan as it makes no sense to watch cropped images.

The only cropping which we get these days is SD compressed by MPEG-4, but nothing we can do about that.

Re: 4K Upscaling - V6 or tv - it's your choice

Just received my new Sammy 50 and with all the video output windows ticked the picture is superb ,only one small complaint if you do happen to be on a lower Res channel then the TV guide will look terrible . I couldn't tick all the boxes with the old Sony bravia as it just couldn't handle it when switching channel ,it went haywire basically blinking constantly .Ok now tho .good thread .
