I have a Sony TV the spec of which says it supports HLG so why is Sky UHD dull on my TV?

On my LG tv, my tv changes  automatically from HD to HLG HDR when I go on to sky sports uhd. When I go on Netflix for example it will automatically change to HDR if required. Your setting may need turned on

This works for me. First  make sure your on the sky sports UHD channel you want to watch, then on you 360 box go to settings>audio & video>hdmi resolution, then change the resolution to anything other than 4K. When you get the message asking you to confirm the new resolution, select “restore original resolution”. When you exit the settings screen the colours are as you would expect them to be. If you pause/rewind or change channel the colours change back to being dull. This is only a temporary fix but makes viewing a lot better. I have two 360 boxes and it works on both.

Hi all,

my issues is when I fast forward or rewind on a channel broadcasting in HDR, the picture goes black for 2 seconds, then brings up the pictures again with the fast forward arrows. When I get to the point I want, and press play, and the screen goes blank again for 2 seconds then it plays the picture. Stunning UHD but very annoying. Also happens if I come out of a recording or change a live channel. It Does not happen when I pause? my menu is dark like others but the uhd picture is so good, the menu being dark does not worry me.

My conclusion is the 360 menu can’t handle HDR, so the tv has a moment when switching. Hopefully they can get it sorted. At the same time a 1 button to recordings and un-delete would be a nice addition -  asking to much now 🤣

Hi @Ntlavs

You can use voice control and say "recordings" to go straight to all recordings.

Have you tried Settings > Audio & Video > Match Frame Rate >  and altering the On / Off option to see if that helps with the screen going blank? Mines set to Off  but I haven't had any screen blanks.

Thanks new Apollo. I tried to change the frame rate on the Virgin box but it did not do anything. I changed all the settings on the tv that control the HDR and hdr modes, but still happens. It also happens when I go into the channel from another channel. If anyone has a fix, please let me know but I am not holding my breath!

Hi Ntlavs, thanks for the message and welcome to the forums.

Does it allow you to re-add the channel via the set top box?

How is the service since posting?

Chris

Hi chris_w

The channel is still there. No issues with the channel. What happens is when I watch a playback or a delay live tv or rewind the UHD sky sports channels, a black screen appears for 2 seconds. Then the picture comes back. Press play again, black screen for 2 seconds. This does not happen on any sport ultimate or virgin 4K channel. Just the sky sports ones as I think these are the only ones broadcasting HDR. If I am watching a normal Hd or sd channel and I turn to Sky sports UHD, the black screen for 2 seconds will appear. But say if I turn from a hd or sd channel to by ultimate, the picture appears straight away with no black screen for 2 seconds. Only really noticed the problem when fast forwarding through the king’s coronation on UHD and now it is bugging me. I will post on the Sony forums to see if they have a fix. I might also get a faster / premium HDMI cable.

Hi again @Ntlavs

Have you tried a different HDMI cable, or different HDMI ports?  The HDMI cables need to be High Speed, better still if they are HDCP 2.2 compliant, otherwise they can cause issues with sound and picture, including black screens for a few seconds as they re-calibrate the content shown.
