To access recordings on my mini box is it necessary to leave my main box left on?

Do I have to leave my main box left on to access recordings on my mini box in another room

You need to have both boxes set to Fast Start or Active Start so the mini box can access the main box if it's in Standby.

To reinforce the advice from @roy247  - yes you do. By means of explanation, the minibox doesn't have a hard drive of its own so can't make or play recordings. It streams them from your main box, so "it" (i.e. the main box with the hard drive) needs to be set to either active or fast start to allow access to the HDD.
