Hi All,
I have tried calling 150 for this but the lady did not understand the question so hung up!!!
Like most people I have been looking at what devices are plugged in 24/7 to see if any could be controlled via an on/off timer. As part of this I was looking at the power usage of each device. Those that don't use much can be ignored atm and those that use alot put on a timer.
EG, our lounge TV is 210w on standby, that equate to £1.50/day (we only use it from 19:30 to 23:00 ish) so this is now turned off when not in use.
So this brings me to the virgin 360 box. It has a separate power supply that only give 'max' output, not what is 'normal' usage.
Does anyone know what is the 'normal' usage?
Following on, can I turn the box off when NOT in use?
Thanks
Steve

That's the "Home" / "Standard" mode power consumption, Standby power consumption is lower down, 0.2 W or less (20 W when Quick Start is "On" on)
Oh and while we here, where did ECO come from? none of my docs mentions it!
I think the 360 has always had the 3 modes, can't speak about any documentation.

No I do not expect too much from support, I expect that if the telephone people don't know or don't have access to the info then they should pass me to someone who does, not hang up because they have a difficult question.
Yes I know that the info on the power supply is max load, but what else is customer/user supplied with????
After all where have you got your info from?? the info is available somewhere.

The following page https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/televisions-projectors-lcd-tvs/kdl-40z4500/specifications
shows, 'Power consumption (Standby) (W) Less than 0.2, 235'
Page 54 in the manual states,' Standby power consumption* 0.2W or less (20 W when Quick Start is On)
*Specified standby power is reached after the TV finishes necessary internal processes (page 55)
The 360 ECo is under Settings > System > Standby power consumption > (Fast start/Active start or ECO)

So the manual for that model states that standby power consumption is 0.2w or less (20w when Quickstart is "On"). The figure you are quoting is for when the TV is switched on and operating in "Home" / "Standard" mode:
No I do not expect too much from support, I expect that if the telephone people don't know or don't have access to the info then they should pass me to someone who does, not hang up because they have a difficult question.
I already agreed with you that hanging up was rude but IMHO the call centre staff will not have this information or know where to locate it. I'm willing to bet that if you called Sky their staff wouldn't know the power usage of a Sky Q box either. There are folks within VM who will know this information but I doubt that they will be customer facing staff. I'll make some enquires as this subject has piqued my interest.

I got it from the blog post I linked to in my previous post and the guy there explains how he tested to get the figures he published, so they may not be 100% accurate.

PS, the audio system is also Sony
Not enough info to track down a manual for it, but based on your misreading of the TV manual I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest you have made a similar mistake while reading the audio system manual.

OK, I have four questions. Yeah? And? So? What? 😉
Seriously though, what point are you trying to make with this post?

I simply asked for the power consumption of the power supplies as I could not find it on the unit, just the max possible.
I believe you have answered that.

I’ve just checked my V6 box, “upgraded” to V360 using a good power meter. I expect a true V360 box will have very similar power consumption.
in each case I put the box into stand by and waited 10 minutes before measuring to give the box time to go to sleep.
Operating : 15 watt
Fast Start : 12 watt
Active Start : 1.3 watt
Eco : 0.3 watt.

There is no functional difference between the two. if your box is running 360 software, it's a 360. Not a V6 anymore 😉

Thanks. I suspected that was the case. The quotes around "upgraded" are because in my opinion it's a significant downgrade. I miss my TIVO functionality.
