Controlling LG 49uh770v TV with Virgin 360

Hi new customer here.

Installation person could not pair my Virgin 360 remote with my TV and advised it might work in the future with a software update.

I've since spent a bit of time trying to pair manually myself, and after reading forum posts also tried using all 4 digit combinations of my TV model number but have had no luck.

My TV is an LG 49uh770v.

Is there any way to pair this or a way to only use one remote? For example, are there any third party universal remotes that support the Virgin 360 box?

M

Hi @mc09779

You can use some third party remotes such as the OneForAll URC7125 - use the SimpleSet setup process and choose Ziggo as the manufacturer.

There's also the OneForAll1240 - if you enter code 1582, It's not as expensive as the URC7125 and has 4 selects for tv/sat/amp/dvd.  I found I needed direct line of sight to set up the 1240 (I haven't got the 7125)

Even though it should be a new remote, a lot of people have been able to successfully set up the 360 remote by inserting new batteries..

Failing that have you tried factory resetting the remote? ( It may already be paired with a different TV model)

Press and hold the TV and Rewind button for 10 seconds which will factory reset the 360 remote. After the factory reset, try pressing TV and 0 button for 10 seconds and it should now force pairing..

Please try entering the device name as below.

I have two LG TV's.  The older one is LGNANO796NE and I am able to set it up by typing NANO and also by typing 796E.

My second LG TV is the 50NANO766QA and I set that up by typing 766Q

Most devices can be set up by entering the first four characters after the screen size or model name, or by entering four  consecutive characters from the model name.

With your device   I would try entering  UH77 or 770V  in Settings > Audio & Video > Pair remote with devices > TV devices > LG

Have  you  tried the key testing method? Audio & Video > Pair remote with devices > TV devices

Don't just accept the first one that appears to work. Try a few more as (like the older V6 and Tivo boxes) there are often 3 or 4 that will work, some more fully than others.

Thanks so much for such a comprehensive answer.

I've worked through the list of fixes and no luck I'm afraid.

I also tried the reverse and to pair the TV remote with the Virgin box as both Virgin Media and also as a Ziggo, but Ziggo is not even under the list of manufacturers on my TV. Firmware and software on TV is up to date.

There must be something I'm doing wrong, I find it hard to believe such a mainstream TV from 6 years ago would not be supported.

Universal remote it is I think, thanks for the One4All suggestion, I will try one of the models.

Hi again @mc09779

Have you got Simplink turned on on your LG TV?

This may not work for you, but it's worth a try to pair your LG Smart remote with the 360.  The screen layouts may not be exactly the same on our TV's but should be similair.

Ziggo isn't showing as an option on my LG, however I can bring up a search box as part of the setting up process where I can type in 'Ziggo'

When trying to set it up with the 360 on my LG I go to Universal Control Settings. It shows Virgin (North East) and View More. If I click on View More and then Next I am shown a list Set-Top box providers ( Sky, VM and BT)

If I move cursor up I can place it in the Search box then click OK and type in Ziggo and press Enter.

It then brings up another screen with Ziggo highlighted. I then click on Next and a new screen appears, 'Remote Control Operation Test' I  press OK again and the main VM channel that's playing appears in a mini screen, along with a highlighted PR⬆ -  I then press the OK button  and highlight  either Yes or No onscreen (it doesn't work first time for me) but the second time I click on PR⬆ it changes channels so I click Yes to show it's paired, and then Done.

Newapollo, thanks again for the suggestions.

I went through the steps again via the LG TV interface and there is no Ziggo, but plenty of others staring with Z. I even tried other manufacturers and media company names I could find from around Europe that also use the same box but could not get it working.

So, thanks to your suggestion of the brand One For All, I bought one of the Evolve models with the learn function just to be on the safe side. All set up in less than 5 mins and TV and Set top box now work as one.

Hopefully LG and Virgin can sort this out in the future!

Thanks again and appreciate the detail and thought in your answers.
