Re: using data even when I was on wi-fi!

Check the data usage on your phone, so you can see what app(s) may have been using the data  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201299

Re: using data even when I was on wi-fi!

Thank you for this. I looked but it was difficult to tell as if never reset the counters before so was showing stats from way back. I’ve now reset the counters so perhaps over the next day or 2 some lift may be shed on this!

Hi Nat. No - no maps running etc. All apps closed (I like my phone to be tidy!). The mystery continues...!🤷🏼‍♀️

Re: using data even when I was on wi-fi!

Was there any page open on Safari?

Also do you have another handset you can try the SIM card in?

Hi Martin. No safari wasn’t open or running. And I don’t have any other handsets to try either. 😕

Re: using data even when I was on wi-fi!

Since you performed a reset, are you able to check which apps have been using data?

If it's an Iphone, do you have automatic iCloud back up enabled for example?

Can you check the settings of each app, for example WhatsApp and see if you have auto download of media enabled?

Thanks,

Lisa

Re: using data even when I was on wi-fi!

My mum had exactly this problem at around the same time as you.  She's 80 (not a streamer or heavy user) , using a OnePlus phone , and suddenly used her whole 1gb instead around 140mb a month.

Re: using data even when I was on wi-fi!

Hi tdwdotnet,

Please check your mum's mobile to see what apps she has and the individual settings for each app to see what is using the data. Also make sure that she is able to connect to her normal WiFi networks such as her home network.

Thanks,

Lisa

Re: using data even when I was on wi-fi!

Thanks Lisa , nothing at all has changed in her apps or usage,  she has had this handset for 6 months and has been on the same VM tariff since 2011.  I have set her phones billing cycle so that I can monitor app usage now.     Chrome has taken quite a bit of data though

I got her to turn her data off to see if her allowance was still dropping and so that she would notice when her WiFi dropped.   But as yet she hasn't received a 100% usage text, and her WiFi is stable.

Re: using data even when I was on wi-fi!

Please continue to monitor the usage and disable any settings that she does not need and check for any malware for example.

Please keep us updated.

Thanks,

Lisa
