I got a sim card from Virgin to put in a spare iPhone 5s I have to give to my daughter who is in hospital with serious injuries from a car accident. When I put the sim card in the phone it won't connect, it says it's locked. The phone was bought privately without a sim card a few years ago. I have contacted Apple and they say that the carrier the phone is connected to have to unlock it. Because I didn't get the phone from Virgin they say they can't unlock it. Other than throw it in the bin are there any other suggestio
Apple are right only the original carrier can unlock the iPhone, if it was not on Virgin then they cannot do anything. To help you I will explain with iPhone the lock status is held with the original carrier, when the iPhone is activated it contacts the server of that carrier and gets the lock status, basically it needs to be registered and that server to unlock it.
