Wifi vs mobile data

Had Virgin mobiles for years.  At home phone has connected automatically to home broadband and outdoors to mobile data. Just got new handset and indoors it has used up all my mobile data allowance.  Help desk tell me I have to turn off mobile data when I am home.  Can this be right?  Phone has always recognised available WiFi in the past and done the sensible thing.

Re: Wifi vs mobile data

I don't know what your phone is but have you been into the settings and looked for something like "use wifi data when available"? This made need activating.

Re: Wifi vs mobile data

Make sure all automatic updates can only be done over WiFi
