Signal SMS

Up to speed

I use Signal for SMS. I have had a message from Virgin which reads "You will no longer be able to send SMS messages from Signal soon. Invite VirginMedia to Signal to keep the conversation here"

I have no idea what this means. Anybody?

Hi

Thanks for your interest. Received on my mobile phone as did my wife on hers.

Further to the above, received from Virgin immediately after they notified us our allowances had been refreshed as is normal each month. So it was not an "out of the blue" message from someone purporting to be from Virgin.

Thanks for the reply @chrisjames.

Is Signal an SMS platform used on the desktop?
If so, are you able to send a screenshot of the issue?
Has this issue ever happened before?

Kind regards,
Ilyas.

Further update: Have received another message (not Virgin) with the same wording. Reading their blog on Signal's Web page it is them that is amending the service shortly which I will try and get my head round. So nothing to do with Virgin, sorry!

Thank you for the update @chrisjames.

Let us know how it goes once the issue has been resolved 🙂
As always - reach out to us if you need anything.

Final update: This is nothing to do with Virgin. As I understand it,  Signal will be changing from a "message to anyone" service to only being able to message someone who is also using Signal. So you get a message from anyone who messages you who is NOT using Signal to advise them to download Signal in order to be able to continue some time into the future. The change is apparently for "security" reasons.  Needless to say, I've stopped using what was an excellent service and returned to my existing default messaging service on my phone.
