New SIM No service

Got my new SIM today but, like a few others, I get the message - No SIM No Service. I've tried switching the phone off and on and tried putting the old SIM back in but that's no longer recognised. I can't phone or text Virgin to let them know Can someone help please?

I managed to get through to Virgin using a landline to be told the SIM hadn't been activated. The lady asked me to remove the SIM to give her the number on it. She then told me she had activated it but it could take up to 24 hours to start working. That was 26 hours ago and it still doesn't work. This is the 3rd day I've been without my phone. Can anyone suggest anything I can try while I try to get through to them yet again? I know they are having problems with less staff at the call centres
