connecting v6 box to home theatre surround sound system

Hi just had V6 installed can I connect my surround sound to this new box. Engineer not helpful as just left our scart dangling with no explanation. We connected the sound system to our TiVo box by a scart lead but as there is no scart socket on the new v6 box we have no where to connect it. Our sound system is quite old but worked perfectly on the TiVo box. This is not a good start as having to listen just through tv speakers and that is no where near as good as the sound system, This is meant to be a much improved box but if we cant connect a sound system this wouldn't be the case for us.

Re: connecting v6 box to home theatre surround sound system

Hi webby1979,

Thanks for posting!

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble setting up your surround sound.

As you've mentioned, the V6 does not have a scart port. Does you surround system have any other connection ports on it such as an optical input?

Speak soon

Josh

Re: connecting v6 box to home theatre surround sound system

Hi as Josh has asked and you say your system is rather old, sadly I am thinking it maybe no longer compatible with more up to date equipment as the V6 which is virgins latest box, you may have other ways of connecting it as scarts are now rather old, unfortunately this sort of thing moves quite quickly. Re: connecting v6 box to home theatre surround sound system

I think you have two options, the V6 has an analogue audio out socket which will accept a standard headphone plug, so you should be able to get some sort of cable that will connect that to your sound system, most likely 3.5mm headphone jack to phono (a pair of red & white plugs) possibly with a phono-scart adapter if that's the only input your sound system has (though make sure it is phono-scart for input not scart-phono for output). Something like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/3-5mm-AV-Jack-Scart-Cable/dp/B075CSFQYQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1516181054&s...

Alternatively, a more expensive solution would be to use an HDMI splitter and an HDMI-Scart converter, but that shouldn't be necessary.

Re: connecting v6 box to home theatre surround sound system

Is it possible for you / someone to upload a photo of the connections using RCA leads please. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. I only get a sound like a motorbike revving!

Re: connecting v6 box to home theatre surround sound system

Hi there,

I'm in the same situation.

Just had the newest box installed but wasn't told before that the boxes can't always set up easily with external surround systems. Bit silly really when everyone has a surround system these days!

I would like some help - not sure how to connect it all now. Managed to get audio (this wasn't working first of all as we had settings turned on via the TV for the  audio to be controlled via the external speaker, but now it's back to the TV's sound).

Our Samsung surround system was previously connected to Sky via RCA x 3 cables (like these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wentronic-50383-GB-Audio-Video-Cable-Black/dp/B000NDHK8E/ref=sr_1_5?s=elect...).
But there is now no connection this way.

I have tried using a digital optical lead to go from the surround system to the Tivo/Virgin box, but this didn't work. I was thinking of next getting this (am waiting for it to arrive): https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-3-5mm-Jack-Male-4-Pole-to-3-RCA-Phono-Male-TV-AV-Video-Adapter-Cable-...

I've included some pics above which may help (excuse the dust!)

What else can I do? Virgin can't advise further and I'm not sure if there is anything else I can do before contacting Samsung or hiring someone (which will be costly if it's just a case of moving a few cables around or getting another one).

Re: connecting v6 box to home theatre surround sound system

Do I see an optical out on the TV?

If it is, try that to the optical in on your Sammy SS box. If it works you might find a TV speaker off setting in your TV settings.

PS my surround sound set up is upstairs in my junk cupboard, not worth the effort (or the extra power consumption required to drive 5 amplifiers) so not everyone has them these days 🙂
