VM phone line and monitored alarms?

My mother has Virgin media broadband and phone line. ( our area used to be Telewest before becoming Virgin )

she has a monitored alarm system installed that calls someone when it’s triggered, either burglar alarm or the “help me I’ve fallen down” pendant / wrist button.

she had a call earlier from the monitor company saying that she will need to upgrade her equipment because “ BT is moving over to all fibre and it won’t work with the phone lines anymore, we have to do it over the internet”.. despite being with Virgin

I’m just after info / confirmation that these types of systems will all need to be changed over at some point due to the eventual closure of the analogue exchanges or will they continue to work with the new phone lines?

surely if existing normal phones will work with the new system then an alarm system will work too?

Re: VM phone line and monitored alarms?

Lengthy discussion about this here

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Home-Phone/Converted-to-digital-line-emergency-backup-kit-faile...

which might help explain further and some background to VM's current offering for this

Re: VM phone line and monitored alarms?

VM are moving over to hub based lines in the next year or so, as the old landline phone system is becoming obselete.

There will be no backup during power outages or loss of broadband connections, so many of these alarm companies will have to find another solution to this.

VM BB TV Landline. Vonage 2nd line. Freeview/Freesat HD, ASDA/Tesco PAYG Mobile. Customer since 1993

Re: VM phone line and monitored alarms?

There is a website that's been set up that covers all phone providers making the change

https://www.futureofvoice.co.uk/

Also here's the OFCOM press release from December
