Slow but steady rise in error rates

Here's one for the community:

As an "engaged customer" I keep an eye on my hub's stats. speeds, and my BQM as I'm sure you do.  Over the past few months I've noticed a slow but persistent and progressive rise in error rates.  Go back a few months, and I was seeing about 0-25 pre-RS errors per channel per day (including the non-significant errors usually inherent in startup), and maybe a single post RS error every week across all channels.  That's been rising steadily.  Because my Hub 3 goes off on a timer every night, each day is a clean sheet.  Looking at the stats at this moment about (20:00 Monday, relatively cool day), this is what it shows from 14 hours run time since restarted:

Channel Locked Status RxMER (dB) Pre RS Errors Post RS Errors

2Locked38.9719111
3Locked38.6966117
4Locked38.9116947
5Locked38.91332121
6Locked38.9175043
7Locked38.92034123
8Locked38.9197440
9Locked38.91926112
10Locked38.9226150

12Locked40.32388114
13Locked40.32617114

15Locked38.94354116
16Locked38.65168116
17Locked38.9644236
18Locked38.67432116
19Locked38.68776115
20Locked38.6892952

22Locked38.98031125
23Locked38.9868350

So, based on my experience in this forum, this trend is looking ominous, and I expect to see higher frequency channels broach 10,000 pre-RS errors per day before the end of the week.  At the moment download and upload speed and latency are looking good, BQM not showing any trouble, nothing material in the log, so not a complaint (yet?).  Power levels are all looking good and reasonable tight and consistent, SNR and modulation are both solid.

But the error rate can't go on rising without starting to erode speed and latency, and if advising another customer I'd say that 100,000 pre-RS errors a day were a problem, and more so 2,000 post RS.

Any thoughts from my trusted community fellows?  How's your 12 to 24 hour error rate looking?

Re: Slow but steady rise in error rates

As I understand it the pre errors can largely be ignored, but an increasing number of post RS errors may indicate a local fault, which could be down to an amplifier or other bit of kit in a near by street cabinet to which you are connected beginning to fail.

There are other community members around who may support this or even suggest that I am barking up the wrong tree.

Re: Slow but steady rise in error rates

Have you checked for a loose coax connection? Going upstream a fault at your tap point (sometimes caused by water ingress) can be troublesome.
