Remote Access on Superhub 3

thoms
Tuning in

Hi, I want to log into the hub from outside the lan, has anybody successfully done this? There is an option in settings under admin to enable remote access which I have done but if I then attempt to connect by browser, to my Virgin ipv4 address the connection just times out. I got through to Virgin 2nd level support who said the facility doesn't exist (the hub seems to think it does) but then recanted and said I need to use the virgin media connect app. I've downloaded this but there is nothing I can see which would facilitate remote access. Ideas anyone?

for what purpose do you need access to the router admin pages from outside your network?

Not sure that's relevant to the question but... if I cannot connect to a camera remotely I might want to check its status on the hub and act accordingly.

i assume you're trying to access it using http://<ipaddress>:<port> ?
as the port it's listening on may not be port 80.

and the initial quesiton was entirely relevant, as to ascertain what you were trying to achieve and to check if WAN access to the hub was actually required.

personally i'd be looking at doing this a different way rather than opening up the admin pages to the WAN.

Correct, that is how I'm trying to do it except I'm trying to use the default port 8443. Do you thing changing the port to 80 would make a difference?

do you have any port forwards set on the router already?

you've tried both http and https ?

Yes, I've tried both http and https and no port forwarding is set for anything at all.

reason i asked is that you said you access a camera remotely - usually that requires a port to be opened to give you access to it on the WAN side.

only other suggestion is to factory reset the hub (press and hold the reset button for at least 60 seconds until the hub reboots on its own - don't manually power it off).

The camera and its associated app isn't very helpful about how it achieves remote access but I assume it must use a default port, probably 80, but I can't see how to verify that. So when I connect to the camera via the app on my mobile it is all set up but invisible to me.

is it one of those chinese brands that require the use of a, quite dodgy, app?
those camera communicate with a server somewhere, and the app connects to that rather than to your camera.
