Re: Mac Filtering Hub 3 - WORKS !!!

I think that MAC address filtering is working.

You need to set the Only Restrict in these times radio button, then use the time blocker to specify when access is to be denied.

This appears to work ( but has only been functioning like this for a few weeks now)

The only problem is that if the router is rebooted  then it defaults back to permanently blocking the devices specified in the MAC address filter. This isn't a problem for me !

If the router is reset then it goes back to default settings and any changes you have made are lost.

Re: Mac Filtering Hub 3 - WORKS !!!

Thanks. I have tried several times ove rtge past year but with no luck. I have downloaded the new virgin app that enables me to pause the Internet to individual devices which does work but you have to do manually. There's no option for scheduling a time

Re: Mac Filtering Hub 3

Best way to fix the mac filtering ussue is to leave virgin.

It worked no end for me and my latency online was less also since there's an issue with the hub 3 chipset which they never tell you about. It was patched but its still not the best.

Basically they lie/hide genuine faults to get your cash then don't care. Hence why customer support is so bad and there rarely on these forums..

Re: Mac Filtering Hub 3

I've tried using both IP Filtering and MAC Filtering, and on neither option does the Super Hub 3 'remember' the times set for when the filters should be active.

I had to upgrade my Hub from a 2ac to a 3 because the 2ac was dropping connections and rebooting 2-3 times a day. The 3 is more reliable as a modem, but the firmware bugs have made it useless as a router. The DHCP Reservation interface was glacially slow, MAC filtering and IP Filtering don't work unless you want to permanently block a device. Machine display names are ignored by the App (iOS).

I'm gutted that I now need to spend money on a new router to enable some kind of schedule to when machines can connect (essential for me as part of parental controls). I spend £70+ on my Virgin Broadband service and I am loathe to spend £150-200 on a working router as well.

Re: Mac Filtering Hub 3

This problem has been raising its head regularly. I can't believe Virgin don't mention that their router is crap before you sign up. I ended up buying a Netgear Nighthawk with Disneys' Circle with parental controls which is great but that's an additional £50 per year . Best you can hope for is to negotiate a lower broadband monthly cost.

Re: Mac Filtering Hub 3

I've just been looking to add filtering to restrict gadget use.  Ridiculous that Virgin still haven't got this sorted.

Re: Mac Filtering Hub 3

Hello Ash17

Thank you for taking the time to contact us via the forums and welcome to the community. We do offer the Connect App virg.in/connectapp which will allow you to pause devices connected to your home network.

At present, if you do pause a device you will need to pause another device on the network to be able to see the previously paused device to unpause it (if that makes sense :S)

Thanks

Rob

...that makes NO sense whatsoever??!!!

So you're basically suggesting that in order to pause 'Device 1', we need to pause 'Device 2' in order to then see 'Device 1' on the network, to unpause it.

If this is indeed the case, how are we then supposed to unpause 'Device 2' (and please don't suggest we need to pause 'Device 3' in order to see 'Device 2' to unpause because this is NOT a solution) ??

The last time I paused a device from within the app (Device 1), the next day when I wanted to unpause it, it no longer showed as a connected device in the app meaning the ONLY way to unpause it was to log in to my Hub 3 admin page and remove the IP address from within the blocked addresses (this is certainly NOT what the average non tech person would know how to do)...........

...clearly nobody at VM knows anything about fixing this issue, judging by not receiving a single response from anybody since I posted the above on Friday.

Re: Mac Filtering Hub 3

One year on, this is still a problem. Virgin - will it ever be fixed? Such an annoying bug in the software when you lose all the schedules after a reboot.
