gig1 speed only around 650mbps...

BigFloppy
Dialled in

Hi all,

So I upgraded from 500 to gig1 in November... I have not managed to get over around 650mbps the whole time since upgrading apart from on the initial day when setup (managed to get 900 ish)... It's stable around this level.

Power levels seem ok and yes I am using ethernet.

I've tried with no other devices connected to wifi etc, so it's not an internal issue. It's this speed no matter what time of day.
Is this normal?

VM, perhaps you can PM me and check my line?
I'm quite disappointed as had to pay extra per month to upgrade an only getting around 50-100 mbps faster...

Thank you.

If you're testing on wifi, then 650 Mbps is the practical limit for an individual device connecting using the 802.11ac standard.  And that's generally only on premium devices, with anything less well specified typcially slower.  To see anything approaching 1 Gbps you'd have to test two fast wifi devices at the same time (should get speeds that add up to roughly 1.1 Gbps if you the tests are actually running concurrently), or test on a PC connected to the hub by ethernet cable, when you should see speeds around 950 Mbps.

Thanks for the response.

No it's not on Wifi, its wired, CAT6, via my ASUS RT-AC88U, Superhub in modem mode.

I have run both speed tests on the cabled PC and a wifi device at same time, it halves on both of them adding up to the approx 650mbps

I have also tried directly into superhub, non modem mode without my Asus router.

Can you post the router status 'Downstream', 'Upstream', and 'Networklog' tab data from your HUB (Will be 192.168.100.1 in modem mode).

Copy paste in text; you will need to split into multiple posts and sometimes click post a second time due to an error that can occur.

Any MAC info will be removed automatically on posting.

For the above site to work your HUB must be in router mode.

Any QOS enabled on your Asus?

Thanks for this.

So that is testing as it should and also running a speed test using a wifi device and wired device at same time via superhub gives it around the 1.1gbps.

So it's either the asus router not achieving enough throughput or the cable between the superhub and asus router.....

Well you will still be limited to 940Mbps due to the 1Gbp ethernet ports.

Any QOS enabled?

Have you tried the speed test built into the ASUS?
