Upgrade to 500mbps - no change

Hi all

I appreciate this sort of post is fairly common. We were upgraded from M200 to M500 as part of our retention deal. However we have seen literally no change in speeds. We get reliably 130-190mbps virtually every speed test we conduct, both pre and post upgrade. The upgrade hasn't changed anything at all.

I'm wondering if there may be an issue with the line which is causing a ceiling at around 200mbps. The router status is showing a Max Traffic Rate of 575000000 so the upgrade has notionally been pushed to the router.

Router status details are below. Any assistance/comments would be appreciated.

Re: Upgrade to 500mbps - no change

You've got a couple of issues with your line, which is probably the reason you aren't seeing much difference in speed (Your config appears to have updated):

  • SNR is 'off' on two downstream channels (1000's of errors recorded).
  • One of your upstream channels is out of spec on QAM.
  • Power levels on your upstream channels is very high.

Have you checked your speeds on a wired device?

Re: Upgrade to 500mbps - no change

Thanks Carl.

I suppose I'd have to speak to VM to try and get those issues fixed? Something which is virtually impossible at the moment without a 90 minute wait time on the phone!

I haven't yet tried a wired device as both our laptops are USB C only and don't have an ethernet port. Will dust off the Raspberry Pi and wire that into the router to check wired speeds.
